Miss Fiji Mere Nailatikau is already beaming with confidence with the hopes of resting the prestigious crown in Fiji for the very first time.

Nailatikau who was recently crowned 2009 Miss Fiji Hibiscus will represent Fiji to the weeklong regional event which will for the first time be hosted in Fiji at Suva’s Albert Park.

“It’s not easy but I’m ready to give the people of Fiji what they expect,” the 23-year-old said.

“My preparation has been hectic but I’m grateful to everyone for their support. I’m positive about winning not for myself but for the people of Fiji and it’s just the matter of getting everything right. I would like to thank everyone who has been showing their support, people of all ages and races who have been approaching me and wishing me the best.”

The former journalist believes that her message of keeping the people in the Pacific aware of natural disaster preparedness will be a key interest during the Pageant.

“The Pacific has been recently affected by natural disaster so this is a very significant topic for everyone living in the Pacific for now and also in the future. As Miss Fiji, one of my goals is to reach out to various segments of our communities and help spread the important message of always being prepared and knowing what to do when we do get affected by disaster.”

Nailatikau checked in at the Tanoa Hotel to join the rest of the contestant last night while the opening ceremony of the 2009 South Pacific Pageant will be held today.
