A Fiji-Indian mother accused of killing her 3-year old daughter in Sacramento last weekend has claimed she was the victim of domestic violence.
According to US media reports, court documents showed Anul Malik Ram claimed her estranged husband Dinesh Ram "called and told my close friend that he had purchased a gun and was going to kill me and all of my friends".
Court records also show the couple divorced after Anul alleged mistreatment by her husband.
Dinesh called police at 1 am on Sunday, fearing that his 3-year old daughter had been killed by her mother. When authorities arrived at the mother's apartment, they discovered the preschooler unresponsive. The couple's seven year old son was not harmed.
Anul is in the psychiatric ward of the Sacramento County Main Jail, being held on suspicion of murder.
It is understood that she moved to the United States after an arranged marriage to Dinesh.
