The government has urged leaders in the church, vanua, civil groups to come forward and register to participate in the upcoming National Dialogue Forum on Fiji’s future.
The permanent secretary in Prime Ministers Office Colonel Pio Tikoduadua at a press conference this afternoon said this is in preparation for a consultative constitutional forum to be commenced in September in 2012.
“I urge that you don’t allow this rare opportunity go past you without adding your bit to making a better community of our nation and our people,” he said.
A few pre-requisites that applicants to the forum must fulfill include their interest in the Dialogue must focus on Fiji’s future; their contributions must not be inconsistent with the principles enunciated in the Peoples Charter for Change, Peace and Progress and they must not have any pending criminal charges or proceedings in Fiji’s Court System and also they must not represent political organisations based on the communal representation.
The forum is to convene by February 1 next year.
“The purpose of the forum is to facilitate discussions that are expected to be wide ranging and inclusive…,” Tikoduadua said.
All interested persons and/or representatives of civil society and other groups should write with expressions of interest to participate in the dialogue to the PS in the PM’s office by 24 December this year.
