A woman who threw her one-year-old baby out of a bus near the Delainavesi Bridge in Lami on Wednesday has been sent to St Giles mental hospital.

Angeline Rao, 22, appeared before Suva Magistrate Mary Muir yesterday. The Narere woman was giggling to herself as she stood in the dock.

Muir has ordered a psychiatric evaluation on Rao before her next court appearance on November 26.

Deputy Director of Police Operations SP Erami Raibe said Rao’s baby landed on a patch of grass.

He said the baby was taken to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva for a medical examination and is now in the care of the Department of Social Welfare.
