A 50-year-old Muslim man has been arrested by Police in Labasa after he struck his daughter’s lover with a cane knife early Saturday morning.
Police spokesman Atunaisa Sokomuri confirms the 24-year-old victim is now in a “stable condition” at the Labasa Hospital although his wounds remain serious.
Police reports reveal that the girl’s father was suspicious of her activities on Friday night at their home at Basoga settlement.
After mid-night when checking her daughter’s room, he saw her boyfriend, reported to be a Hindu, hiding under the bed.
Enraged, the man ran out of the bedroom to fetch his cane knife. The two lovers seized the opportunity to also dash out of the room, but the man caught up with them before they exited the house and swung his knife at the boy.
“He suffered three serious stab wounds on his left arm, left shoulder and back,” said Sokomuri.
Police investigations are continuing.
