The Fiji Public Service has given itself a $150,000 budget for its annual prize giving later this month.

“It is an investment,” said Parmesh Chand, the secretary of the Public Service Commission when announcing the Service Excellence Awards Night to be held on November 27 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.

“We are really evaluating ourselves to see how we have faired and it’s also an effort to ensure that the public at the end of the day gets better services.”

The Awards programme was first initiated in 2005 as part of Civil Service Reforms to improve productivity in Government agencies.

The levels of recognition include Commitment to Service Excellence (300-400 points), Achievement in Service Excellence (401-550 points) and the Fiji Public Service Excellence Prize (551-700 points).

This year, there will be other events leading up to the awards night.

The department of Youth and Sports will organize a Sports Day on November 21 for all civil servants in Suva and the Northern Division.

Following this, the Ministry of Information will coordinate the “Fiji Civil Public Week” from the November 24-26.
