A special police team has begun collecting evidence against a former recruiter accused of swindling over $3 million from Fiji nationals seeking jobs in the Middle East.

The Immigration Department has also barred Timoci Lolohea from leaving the country until he is cleared of the allegations.

Lolohea reportedly returned quietly to Fiji this year after leaving for Kuwait four years ago as recruiting agent for Meridian Services.

Police spokesman Atunaisa Sokomuri confirms that individuals, church groups and other organizations that had members paying up to $300 deposit to Meridian, are demanding refunds from Lolohea.

“The taskforce has also got its hands on the previous reports which were lodged a few years back,” he said.

Since returning to Fiji, Lolohea is understood to be recruiting locals for jobs in the United Arab Emirates.
