A global call centre which is projected to provide jobs for about 3000 locals over the next few years has commenced operations at the Kalabu Tax Free Zone.
Mindpearl Ltd, the latest addition to Fiji’s budding Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) sector, answered its first call on November 1, 2009.
The company has signed on Air Pacific and has hired 30 call-centre attendants to handle all of the national airline’s reservations, ticket purchases, travel queries and booking functions.
Mindpearl was established in 1999 and became independently owned in 2006. Its business background reveals its goals to provide “full contact centre facilities and services to a consortium of 11 airlines, flying globally to over 400 destinations across all time zones”.
Mindpearl CEO William Pattison has told FijiLive that majority of its business will come from overseas.
The Mindpearl facility in Kalabu, administered by the Fiji Trade and Investment Board, has been refurbished from a warehouse into a multi-million dollar, fully-functional call-centre, which can accommodate more than 700 employees at any one time.
FTIB chief executive officer Annie Rogers is excited about the job prospects that will become available as Mindpearl charts its course in Fiji over the next few years.
The FTIB plans to use the Mindpearl Call-Centre as a beacon for prospective investors who are looking to explore opportunities in Fiji’s growing ICT sector.
The ICT sector is one of the key sectors that FTIB is aggressively promoting given its potential to create significant employment opportunities in the short-term, while also generating valuable foreign-exchange earnings from the export of services.
