Fiji’s Land Forces Commander Colonel Pita Driti says the military is investigating 20 of its personnel over allegations they harassed cane farmers in several parts of the country.

Driti told FijiLive the military personnel were being investigated following complaints by the National Farmers Union (NFU) and forwarded to the Ministry of Defence.

“We are investigating,” Driti said.

He said they had received complaints from farmers in Wairabetia in Nadi, Navoli in Ba and in Labasa.

“The soldiers should not do this and listen to their commanding officers,” added Driti.

The investigations would be complete within two days and those found guilty would be punished.

NFU general secretary Mahendra Chaudhry could not be reached for comment.
