Six months after being named acting Chief Registrar, Ana Rokomokoti has been confirmed in the position by Fiji’s Vice President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.
Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the appointment was a step in the direction of government’s vision of a corruption-free and efficient judicial system.
Sayed-Khaiyum said part of the CR’s work included investigating complaints against lawyers, prosecuting lawyers before the Independent Legal Services Commissioner and supervising the administration services of the Judicial Department.
Rokomokoti has been appointed for a three-year term effective April 11, 2009.
A former military lawyer, she was appointed acting CR soon after the abrogation of the 1997 Constitution in April, prior to which she was a magistrate.
