Talks are under way on the proposed merger of Fiji’s road and motor vehicle regulator, the Land Transport Authority, and the country’s road safety agency, the National Road Safety Council.
Ministry of Works spokeswoman Sainiana Waqainabete told FijiLive that meetings had been held on the proposal.
However, she said the discussions were far from decision stage.
“These are plans at discussion stage, nothing conclusive,” she said.
Waqainabete would not comment on why the merger was being looked at.
The National Road Safety Council has direct responsibility in enhancing safety for all road users.
The Council is also a member of the LTA which has 14 branches around Fiji.
