Fiji police say they have not made any progress with investigations surrounding controversial security firm figure Timoci Lolohea after receiving complaints from members of the public following his reported return to Fiji last week.

Director Police Operations Superintendent Erami Raibe said police had launched investigations based on both the new complaints and those from 2005.

At that time, Lolohea was at the centre of a controversial job scheme in which more than 20,000 locals were promised jobs in Kuwait for a total $3 million.

“He is being investigated for the previous and new complaints,” Raibe told FijiLive.

“We will take him in when the time is right and this will be determined by the investigators,” he said.

“We cannot just barge in and make arrests. He is here now. And we are investigating him now.”

Former associates said last year that Lolohea was reported to be serving a two-year prison sentence in Kuwait for being involved in a corruption scandal.
