Fiji’s Immigration authorities have issued a no-departure notice on a controversial security firm figure at the centre of an alleged scheme dating back to 2005 involving promises of jobs in Kuwait to 20,000 locals in return for more than $3 million.

Director Immigration Major Nemani Vuniwaqa told FijiLive that Meridian Services director Timoci Lolohea will not be allowed to leave the country unless he is cleared by local police.

Vuniwaqa said Lolohea’s name was put on the Immigration watch list to stop him from leaving the country while police carry out the investigation.

Lolohea’s name was put on the watch list “after he arrived in the country”, Vuniwaqa said.

He said a person’s name is only added to the watch list once there is a court order issued against that person.

Vuniwaqa said there were a number of people on the list but would  divulge details.

It is believed that Lolohea returned to Fiji last week to recruit locals to work in Dubai.

Former associates of Lolohea told FijiLive last year, he might have been serving a two-year jail sentence in Kuwait for being involved in a corruption scandal.
