Four people in Fiji, including a married couple, have been released as police continue with investigations into the apparent murder of a 57-year-old woman whose badly burnt body was found near her house in Suva in the early hours of Friday.

Police spokesman Atu Sokomuri said the four had been released because the 48-hour time limit on arrests without charges being laid, had expired.

The couple was detained on Friday after a post-mortem examination showed the woman, Dawashwari Devi, died of strangulation.

Her body was found in a cassava patch a few metres from her home in Toorak.

The other two people were arrested on Saturday.

Sokomuri said even though charges had not been brought against the four, they would continue to be part of the investigation.

“The investigation is progressing well; we just need more evidence,” he told FijiLive.
