Hurricane Rick strengthens to Category 2

Hurricane Rick reached Category 2 strength on the Saffir-Simpson scale late Friday and was forecast to become a major hurricane a day later, the US National Hurricane Center said.

Rick was churning off Mexico's southern coast, with maximum sustained winds roaring at near 100 miles (160 kilometers) per hour.
