An eight-year-old boy in Germany caused a scare when he took a World War I hand grenade to school, police said on Wednesday.
Teachers gingerly removed the grenade, found during construction work, to a separate building at the school in Bavaria until police bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene. It turned out to be no longer dangerous.
Unexploded ordnance is still regularly found throughout Germany more than 60 years after the end of World War II, but explosives from the 1914-1918 conflict are much rarer.
