Fiji’s Police Commissioner has urged the public not to view his officers as devils while launching his department’s public relations campaign.
“We don’t want to be seen as a threat,” said Commodore Esala Teleni while addressing the public at the launch of the Police road show at Suva’s Sukuna Park yesterday.
“We don’t want to be seen and classified as a ‘tevoro’ (devil) as in the past.”
Teleno invited people to lodge complaints against his officers and ask questions on any pending cases.
“We will take the complaints from a positive angle because we also want you to contribute to the strengthening and the building of this organisation,” he said.
The road show is a new initiative of the Police Force in its attempt to target a “crime free” country. It compliments its Christian Crusade which has been postponed until after the completion of the nation-wide road show.
Teleni and his senor officers have credited the crusade for lowering the country’s crime rate so far this year.
Police officers have erected tents at Sukuna Park to service members of the public who want to lodge complaints, ask questions and access information about any arm of the Police Department.
The Police road show will move to other parts of the country after its conclusion in Suva this weekend.
