A former Fiji village headman has pleaded guilty to taking money fundraised by his village for an electricity supply project.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Taitusi Tikomacuata with one count of fraudulent conversion.
He is alleged to have taken $4350 belonging to the people of Nacereyawa Village for his own use.
Nadi Magistrate Ropate Dabealawa heard that the villagers were required to fundraise $5000 as their contribution to a government-backed scheme.
The money was given to government but later reimbursed to Tikomacuata for the villagers after they chose a cheaper solar power initiative.
Tikomacuata has been remanded in custody and will appear in court on October 8 for sentencing.
