A number of high-ranking chiefs from several of Fiji’s 14 provinces did not turn up to be part of the historical occasion of the opening of the Vale ni Bose Vakaturaga, the meeting house for the Great Council of Chiefs in Nasova yesterday.

Absent were Rewa confederacy paramount chief and Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa, the Tui Namosi Ratu Suliano Matanitobua and Tui Cakau Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu.

No one from the chiefly household of mataiwelagi in Bau was present to represent the Kubuna confederacy except for acting president Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

Another notable absentee was Nadroga high chief, the Turaga na Ka Levu, Ratu Sakiusa Makutu.

Among those were at Nasova to witness the occasion were Naitasiri high chief Ratu Inoke Takiveikata, Tui Macuata Ratu Aisea Katonivere, Rewa chief Ro Epeli Mataitini, Bua chief Ratu Filimoni Ralogaivau and Turaga na Tui Ba Ratu Sairusi Nagagavoka.
