The troubled daughter of "The Mamas & The Papas" singer John Phillips said Wednesday her late father raped her as a teen before the two later had a consensual incestuous relationhip.

Mackenzie Phillips, 49, a former child star with a history of drug abuse, made the claims in a memoir "High on Arrival" published Wednesday and repeated the allegations on Oprah Winfrey's television show.

In her book Phillips, best known for her roles in the 1973 film "American Graffiti" and sitcom "One Day at a Time", recalled how she first had sex with her father on the eve of her wedding in 1979.

"On the eve of my wedding, my father showed up, determined to stop it," Phillips writes. "I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad's bed.

"My father was not a man with boundaries. He was full of love, and he was sick with drugs. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father."

"Had this happened before? I didn't know. All I can say is it was the first time I was aware of it."

John Phillips died in 2001 aged 65 after a long career as frontman for "The Mamas & the Papas", best known during their 1960s incarnation for singles such as "California Dreamin" and "Monday Monday."

Mackenzie Phillips's half-sister, Chynna Phillips, told US Magazine in an interview Wednesday she believed her sibling's allegations.

Chynna Phillips said her sister had confessed the incestuous relationship to her in 1997. "Somebody could have dropped a piano on my head and I probably wouldn't have felt it," she said.

"But I knew it was true. I mean, who in their right mind would make such a claim if it wasn't true?"
