Fiji Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama has left Fiji to attend the 64th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.
The Fiji Government has yet to confirm Bainimarama’s programme and whether or not he will be addressing the world leaders.
Bainimarama has often called on the international community to engage with his Government and support his roadmap to Fiji’s return to democratic rule in 2014.
The general debate for the UN Assembly will be held on 23-26 and 28-30 September 2009 at the UN Headquarters.
Interestingly, the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group will also be meeting in New York on September 26 to consider the Commonwealth’s ongoing engagement with Fiji, which was suspended from the 53-nation grouping on September 1 this year.
