Investigators from Fiji’s immigration department and police have taken in four locals for questioning in relation to a visa scam involving 13 Indian nationals.
Director Immigration Major Nemani Vuniwaqa told FijiLive that Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs officials are also being questioned in connection to the investigation.
Vuniwaqa said the immigration officers will be suspended if they are found guilty although the investigation had not reached that stage yet.
Thirteen Indian nationals were taken in by immigration last week for being in Fiji illegally.
Authorities are trying to determine how the passports show that the detainees have been in and out of Fiji when they have been in the country all the time.
Police and immigration officers are working together on this case.
The 13 are being held at Suva’s Korovou prison.
