Tension is high in the village of Nakorotula in Nadi while police await the medical report of a villager who is alleged to have killed a 2-year-old girl in Momi Friday night.
The little girl’s autopsy reports revealed that she died of suffocation due to strangulation and was physically assaulted.
Police reports say the toddlers’ body was discovered more than five kilometers from her home.
The babys’ parents reported her missing from home on Friday night and her body was discovered Saturday morning.
Police West spokesman Wame Bautolu said the toddler wanted to go to a neighbour’s house and so she did under the watchful eyes of her mum.
“After this, the woman tended to her younger child. It was almost three hours when a search party was organised after the little girl failed to show up. Police was contacted when the girl was nowhere to be found.”
The 39-year-old man is in custody at the Nadi Police station and charges are expected to be laid today.
