A woman who was robbed at a carpark last week was surprised to learn that her handbag, which contained AU $330, US$20, two Flash & Gain cards, one Westpac handicard, a drivers license, and an FNPF card, was found and returned to her by a prisoner.
Rupeni Naisoro of the Nasinu Reformative Center found Padmini Kumar’s handbag during a work party at the Nasinu cemetery.
Kumar, an employee of Footwear International, who was robbed at a Nakasi supermarket carpark, said she had no hope of retrieving her handbag.
A surprised Kumar said she received a call from the Officer-in-Charge at the Nasinu Reformative Center, Assistant Supritendent Hari Nath, the next day to inform her of Naisoro’s find.
Elbourne said such behaviour by inmates are the result of the rehabilitation programs that are being undertaken.
He added the corrections department is hoping that all persons incarcerated move away from the life that has landed them behind bars.
