Fiji police will soon be raiding DVD shops around the country which are still retailing pirated disks after the Copyrights Amendment Act came into force this week.
Police spokesman Sergeant Atunaisa Sokomuri said police discovered that some businesses were still selling pirated disks even after the new law was enforced.
“For a DVD business to be operational, even for rental purposes, the business must have the proper authorization from the distributors of the movie.
“If there is no approval from the correct distributor, the disks are pirated,” Sokomuri told FijiLive.
“There should be no copying of the disks. That’s plain stealing.”
Meanwhile, a DVD shop was raided in Nadi and DVDs along with other items such as copiers were taken from the outlet after SPR Video filed a complaint with the police.
