Members of the Fiji Law Society (FLS) are currently deciding their office bearers through a postal ballot.
This after the society failed to obtain a permit from government to hold their annual general meeting.
FLS president Dorsami Naidu told FijiLive they had unsuccessfully tried obtaining permits for all their meetings.
"Members have wanted to meet to discuss issues about membership but even that has not been allowed,” he said.
Naidu who took over the presidency from Isireli Fa will be standing for elections.
Suva lawyer Rajendra Chaudhry who has been a critic of the FLS under Naidu’s leadership will also be running for the post along with Kitione Vuataki.
Chaudhry told FijiLive he wanted to take the FLS into the right direction and ensure lawyers do their duty by serving the public and not just their pockets.
The FLS has 310 voting members.
The results of the vote will be made known to members on September 19.
