There are reports in overseas media that former Fiji Chief Justice Daniel Fatiaki was last week sworn in as a Supreme Court judge in Vanuatu.
According to Radio New Zealand International and Vanuatu newspapers, Fatiaki has taken up a two-year deal in the Melanesian country.
Fatiaki was suspended as Fiji’s chief justice and subsequently charged with a range of misconduct offences while the government investigated his alleged involvement in the 2000 coup.
On 3 January 2007, he was sent on leave after the events of December 2006 and on 19 January, he was formally suspended, pending an investigation into allegations of misconduct.
The investigation was dropped in December 2008 as part of a deal in which he resigned as Fiji’s chief justice and was to receive a payout of more than $200,000 from the government.
