UN chief Ban Ki-moon leaves this weekend for a 10-day private visit to South Korea that will include talks with the country's leaders on climate change, his spokeswoman said Friday.
Ban, a former South Korean foreign minister, was due to depart on his home leave Saturday and return here August 18, Michele Montas said in a statement.
During his stay, the UN secretary general was to confer with President Lee Myung-Bak, Prime Minister Han Seung-soo and Foreign Minister Yu Myung-Hwan on issues of mutual interest, including climate change and the UN-South Korean partnership.
Ban was also to take part in various UN-related events, including delivering keynote speeches at the 39th World Federation of UN Associations plenary assembly and the Global Environment Forum.
On his return here, Ban was to attend the commemoration of the August 19, 2003 truck bomb attack on the UN headquarters in Baghdad, which killed 22 people, including special envoy Sergio Vieira de Mello.
