Continental Micronesia will begin direct flights from Guam and Honolulu to Nadi from December 18, the airline has announced.

The flights will also offer connections from Japan and the United States mainland to Nadi, a Continental statement said.

Continental Micronesia will operate the new service using Boeing 737-800 aircraft with 14 seats in business class and 141 seats in economy on the routes.

"I am very excited that the launch of the Guam-Fiji service brings convenient access to Fiji for customers in Guam and islands in Micronesia," said Charles Duncan, president of Continental Micronesia.

"Fiji has been a popular destination for high-end repeat visitors from all over the world and has also had a strong demand as a perfect honeymoon destination,” Duncan added.

Tourism Fiji chairman Patrick Wong welcomed the news and said new destinations and newer routes obviously mean that Fiji is more accessible.

“We are hoping that the new services to Fiji by the Continental Airlines will help boost the tourism industry. Tourism Fiji is also working on identifying newer destinations that could be serviced by Fiji’s national carrier.”
