A state parliament in eastern India was suspended Thursday after a suspected cobra slithered into the legislative building and hid under the lawmakers' seats.
Police, tracker dogs and wildlife experts all tried to catch the intruder after it was seen inside the Orissa state parliament.
"I spotted the snake first close to the chief minister's chair when I came to clean the house this morning," Bhisma Nayak told AFP in the state capital Bhubaneswar.
"It looked like a cobra. But before we could act, it vanished and I think the snake is still somewhere inside the house."
Business was adjourned and officials said they were considering employing a traditional snake charmer to catch the reptile and release it into the wild.
