Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) and Colgate Palmolive have lent corporate support in the fight against the Pandemic H1N1 virus.

Telecom has provided a free information line to the Ministry of Health which members of the public can call to gather information on H1N1, and received faxed information from.

The line number is 180002.

TFL has also donated Easytel phones to three divisions so that members of the public who want to talk to medical officers directly can do so using the phones.

Colgate Palmolive donated 35 cartons of Protex soap which will be distributed to schools in the rural areas, including those on Vanua Levu.

Ministry of Health media liaison officer Iliesa Tora said the two companies had shown what corporate responsibility is at a time when the nation needs everyone to help.

“TFL’s assistance of a free information line to the Ministry of Health will be valuable because people can get to information that they will need on the new virus. This will include preventative measures that we have been advocating,” Tora said.

“And Colgate Palmolive’s donation of soaps for schools will also ensure that we are practical with our messages that we have been telling people, especially the message of hand washing.”

Both companies said they were happy to be involved and were prepared to assist the Ministry of Health.
