Miss South Pacific Production Prina Chandra was crowned Miss Bula 2009 at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park last night, at the culmination of what organisers said was one of the best-attended events in the history of the annual Bula Festival.

Twenty two year old Chandra, an office assistant with South Pacific Production, won herself a trip to Los Angeles.

Miss FM96.4 Kathy Vikatoria walked away with the Miss Charity and Miss Personality crowns, bagging trips to Sydney and Auckland.

Bula Festival Committee Treasurer Anil Kumar told FijiLive the crowd turnout was huge.

"I have not seen such a crowd for the past 26 years," he said.

The committee collected $170,000 from this festival, the money going to the people of Nadi.

Kumar said 50 per cent of the charity collection will go towards the daily operation of Nadi Hospital.

The Nadi special school and other schools will also benefit from the charity chest.

Kumar said this year’s collection surpassed the $130,000 that was collected last year.

Unfriendly weather during the week could not stop the people from enjoying the biggest float procession ever, added Kumar.

The best float prize was won by Heights Event Management which carried Litiana Takayawa, sitting on a replica of a mini Taj Mahal.
