Cement supply in the country will normalise from next week, says Josese Daveta, general manager for Fiji Industries Ltd, Fiji’s major supplier of cement.
The company was recently hit by a setback in the supply of clinker, a raw material used in the manufacture of cement, which forced it to import 2060 tonnes of cement to cater for local demand.
“A shipment of cement came in last week but the clinker will be arriving on July 24, a day later than we had originally expected. Following that, cement supply should normalize,” Daveta told FijiLive.
Last week, FijiLive first reported the shortage of cement supply, with FIL chair Sereana Qoro later saying that the organisation was obliged to manufacture to international standards and therefore had to wait for the arrival of good quality clinker.
FIL is currently supplying a number of major construction projects, among them the $30 million Tappoo City project now underway in Suva which has a total cement demand of 2000 tonnes.
