Fiji Police have extended their Christian Crusade to lovers spotted at the Suva seawall as part of a new approach to addressing law and order.
According to Director of Police Operations Senior Superintendent of Police Waisea Tabakau, police are constantly patrolling the secluded spots in the seawall area and people found there in the odd hours are being taught the Word of God.
He has also warned people not to roam around the seawall area late at night as they can be victims of serious crimes.
On the new approach, Tabakau explains that the cause of criminal behaviour, evil spirits, have to be removed from people in order for them to become responsible citizens.
The Suva foreshore area, particularly behind the Civic Centre, has long been a favourite spot for lovers and often referred to as “lovers’ lane”.
However, the area has also been infamous for criminal activity, including drug use.
Last Friday, a 28-year-old was allegedly raped in the area and tossed into the sea by her assailant.
