Vodafone Fiji says it will spend $18 million in promotional deals throughout this month to mark its 15th birthday, after launching its services on July 1, 1994.

This exceeds its promotional birthday spending last year, where the mobile telephone operator gave away more than $14 million in free talk time, mobile phones, cars and scholarships in what it said was its single biggest promotion ever.

“Customers are still talking about our promotions of last year.  Expectations from customers are something similar or bigger will be announced by Vodafone again this year.

“Let me assure our customers that we certainly have something big planned once again this year. Our customers will certainly not be disappointed,” said Vodafone managing director Aslam Khan.

One of the birthday promotions unveiled yesterday gives Vodafone customers a chance to be part of a “snake and ladder” promotion.

The concept based on the popular snake and ladder board game will allow customers to win cash and other prizes from a prize pool valued at $140,000.

To enter this promotion, customers need to send a text stating the location of the closest Vodafone Retail Shop where they can go to play the game if selected.

Once selected, a customer gets three chances to roll a dice and win instant cash, 3G mobile phones and other great prizes.

The slashing of international call rates in July is also expected, with the company promising that international calls to both mobiles or landline to most destinations around the world will drop to 29 cents per minute.

Dubbed with the tagline “call international and talk like a local,” the offer is valid for both post pay and prepaid customers.

“There are more promotions lined up to celebrate our 15th birthday that will only benefit our customers.

“These will be announced at an appropriate time during the course of the month.  The promotions are part of $18m birthday giveaway that is sure to keep our customers buzzing,” Khan said.

Vodafone Fiji is partly owned by Amalgamated Telecom Holdings, which announced a $51 million net profit this week.
