The RB Patel Group has confirmed that officers from the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) served a search warrant on the group last week.

“FICAC has taken some documents but no official allegations have been made,” group chairman Isoa Kaloumaira said in a statement on the South Pacific Stock Exchange.

The raid was carried out last Thursday.

Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority (FIRCA) chief executive officer Jitoko Tikolevu said in a separate statement that a joint operation between FIRCA and FICAC was carried out at the company premises of a locally owned major supermarket “after certain information was received regarding taxation issues”.

Tikolevu said documents uplifted from the company were being scrutinized and reviewed by FIRCA “for the purpose of ascertaining whether there were any breaches of law”.

Kaloumaira has assured customers and shareholders that all operations are normal and that the RB Patel Group is looking at a record financial result for the year ending June 30, 2009.
