Around 1000 jobs are expected to be created out of government’s major road project along the Kings and Lodoni Roads in Tailevu.

A government advertisement today, detailing the award of two out of three contracts for the capital projects revealed that more than 1000 jobs will be generated out of the estimated $82 million state funded project.

“This project execution by the Government of Fiji, via the three contracts execution will result in public sector injection of F$82 million (estimate) by the Government of Fiji and will correlate to positive economic activity and growth, stimulate private sector economic activity, create significant employment of around 1000 employees.”

It will also “… increase GDP and general benefit of the developed infrastructure for the benefit of the people of Fiji, particular emphasis to residents of Kings Road and Lodoni Road, who have faced an 11 year delay, for completion of this project,” the advertisement, which ran in local daily newspapers, said.

It said the government, through the Public Works Tender Board Resolution, has awarded the pending contracts for completion of the Kings/Lodoni Road, by December 2011, to Naim Sdn Bhd of Malaysia – a $36 million contract for 11 km of road, and to locally owned Fairdeal Earth Moving Contractors Ltd – a $23 million contract for 23 km of road.

A total expenses of over $80 million is expected to be incurred between this month and December 2011, the government said.
