Some of Fiji’s serving military and police officers in the United Nations have been awarded medals for their peacekeeping efforts.
According to the Fiji Police website, the medal presentation ceremony was part of the occasion commemorating the International Peace Keeping day at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The medals were awarded by Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy to officers currently serving in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations.
Amongst the medal recipients from the Fiji Police Force was Superintendent of Police, Biu Matavou.
Superintendent Matavou is the first officer from the Fiji Police to serve in UNHQ in New York.
