Two IT personnel of mobile phone firm Vodafone Fiji scooped the country’s inaugural national productivity awards - in recognition of their contributions to innovation and company growth.

Web master Nirul Nihaar and IT technical officer Mosheen Khan received the Productivity Champions award from Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama at the Tradewinds Convention Centre in Suva yesterday.

Bainimarama officiated at the launch of the Productivity Awareness Campaign, themed Recognising Individuals That Make a Difference.

The programme, introduced by the Training & Productivity Authority of Fiji (TPAF), recognises innovative individuals who are making a difference in the effectiveness of their organisation in tough financial times.

A Vodafone statement said Nirul and Mosheen established exemplary work practices and environments that enabled the company to provide excellent service to its customers.

Vodafone’s managing director Aslam Khan said the duo truly deserved to be called “our productivity champions”.

“We are extremely proud of Nirul and Mosheen. They are a reflection of all the hardworking and inventive staff of Vodafone Fiji Limited,” Khan said.

“Over the years, Vodafone has excelled at all competitions and awards related to quality and productivity, including winning the President’s award for Business Excellence twice.

“Winning the top awards at the initial launch of Productivity Champions Award is another milestone for Vodafone,” he added.

Nihaar’s brainchild, the live chat on the company’s official website, receives on average 1.5 million visits per month making it the most heavily visited non-news website in Fiji.

Khan said almost 94 per cent of traffic on the site originated locally.

He said an online customer support service was implemented through Vodafone’s customer care department enabling customer care agents to chat in real time with its online customers and attend to their queries.

Khan said Vodafone Fiji was recognised on the Vodafone Group’s Global Online Learning Database (GOLD) for implementing Live Chat. The company was the first to introduce this service, later adopted by Vodafone Australia and other Vodafone companies worldwide.

Mosheen developed a web-based application called My Zone, which is used on the Vodafone intranet to encourage the staff to live their “red, rock solid and restless values”.

This web-based application allows the management to monitor staff ratings and reward them for their positive behavioural change.
