Russia's wealthiest man Mikhail Prokhorov has registered to pay hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes in a tiny Siberian village in order to support the local budget, Russian media reported on Monday.
Prokhorov, who made his fortune in metals and mining and has a playboy reputation, is now officially a resident of Eruda, a village of 100 people in the region of Krasnoyarsk.
Out of some 680 million dollars (487 million euros) in income taxes that he is set to pay this year, 90 percent will go to the regional budget and the rest will go to the village.
"I believe it is fair to pay my taxes in the region where I have made my money and I hope that a part of this money will be used for social welfare," Prokhorov was quoted as saying.
The tycoon transferred his domicile from Moscow to Eruda on April 20.
Forbes magazine this year listed Prokhorov as the world's 40th richest man with a net worth estimated at 9.5 billion dollars (6.8 billion euros), even as 55 fellow Russian tycoons lost their billionaire status because of the crisis.
