Mobile operator Digicel (Fiji) Ltd is awaiting the outcome of an investigation conducted by the Commerce Commission on a set of interconnection rates for telecommunication companies operating in the country.
A Digicel spokesperson told FijiLive that the company was not permitted to comment on the investigation being held by the Commission but said “we are eagerly awaiting the outcome”.
However, when told that the Commerce Commission had released the outcome of the investigation two weeks ago, the spokesperson maintained: “The matter is still ongoing and Digicel is not permitted to comment on the investigation of the Commerce Commission. We continue to await the outcome”.
Last week, the Commission announced that Digicel and Telecom Fiji Ltd had signed an interim contractual interconnectivity agreement that should see that both companies agree to the rates set by the Commission.
Commission chairman Dr Mahendra Reddy had confirmed to FijiLive that the Commission had set the rate two Fridays ago and had informed the two parties.
Questions forwarded to Telecom Fiji last week remain unanswered.
Meanwhile, Reddy said the Commission was working to review all interconnection rates of telecommunication companies.
