The Transport Workers Union (TWU) is still awaiting information from Air Pacific Ltd before it is convinced that cost cutting measures proposed were necessary for the survival of the airline during this difficult economic condition.
TWU represents some 500 workers of Air Pacific.
Union secretary Kamlesh Kumar said the union’s executive committee met last Thursday, a day before the scheduled follow-up meeting between Air Pacific and the two unions, including the Fiji Airline’s Pilots Association.
At this meeting, the union was to have had access to all information requested of the airline, which was not the case.
He said the scheduled meeting on Friday was delayed because information required was not made available to the union.
“The Friday meeting didn’t happen because the information that was said to be provided to the union did not come to us on Thursday,” Kumar told FijiLive.
When asked to clarify exactly what type of information, he said: “There were certain information we wanted from Air Pacific, which it said it would provide but still have yet to be made available to us”.
Kumar said as a result, the two parties would meet tomorrow afternoon.
It is understood the airline management went ahead with Friday’s meeting with the pilots association.
In an interview last week, Air Pacific managing director and chief executive John Campbell confirmed these meetings saying details of the agreements would be provided today following the Friday meeting.
Campbell has however, yet to respond to queries forwarded to his office this morning.
Questions forwarded to Fiji Airline’s Pilots Association president Chris Clark remain unanswered.
Air Pacific had proposed a few cost cutting measures which did not go down well with at least one of the unions, TWU.
While the measures are being kept under wraps, it is understood that two of these measures include reduced working hours, and employees told to take leave owed immediately.
