Tourism Fiji has ruled out any impact to the tourism industry of the suspension of Fiji from the Pacific Islands Forum.
Tourism Fiji chairman Patrick Wong said it would be “business as usual” as Fiji is well placed geographically in the South Pacific.
“Any likely sanctions by the Pacific Islands Forum would be sad as tourism is such a friendly-people business. Fiji has always been a safe holiday destination and will continue to be,” Wong said.
“Under the interim Government there has not been any unrest or military action that has impacted visitors. The family segment continues to make up a large portion of the visitors arrivals, families returning year after year confirming that Fiji meets their expectation, including being safe.
“Many travel writers and travel agents have also visited Fiji under Tourism Fiji’s Pubic Relation and promotional programmes since December 2006 to see for themselves first hand Fiji is safe confirming all is well for visitors and that our Tourism,” he said.
Fiji’s suspension was officially yesterday by Pacific Islands Forum chairman Toke Talagi.
