National carrier Air Pacific has announced it will suspend recently launched flights between Nadi and Gold Coast effective this Saturday.
Air Pacific managing director John Campbell blamed this on poor demand.
“We regret the necessity to suspend these flights but unfortunately, the economic downturn has resulted in poor demand and increasing losses,” Campbell said in a statement.
“Regretfully, the route did not have the opportunity to develop a viable base from its launch in early December 2008, so that service has struggled throughout 2009. We hope to recommence flights to the Gold Coast when economic conditions improve.”
Campbell said customers currently booked on flights between Gold Coast and Fiji will be re-accommodated to Air Pacific’s daily flights between Brisbane and Nadi and provided transport between Gold Coast and Brisbane Airports.
