The Fiji Government has issued a decree to recreate Fiji’s court system.
Administration of Justice Decree 2009 was gazetted today by the President Ratu Josefa Iloilo and is the 9th decree following the abrogation of Fiji’s constitution last Friday.
The decree will restore judges in all jurisdictions.
This means, Fiji will once again have a magistrates court, high court, court of appeal and Supreme Court.
Under the decree, Fiji’s President Ratu Josefa Iloilo would appoint the judicial officers in these re-created courts.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum told FijiLive that a number of people have shown willingness to be appointed to the bench under a new legal order, but he did not reveal if any of the judges and magistrates dismissed last week would return.
The AG is expected to shed more light on this matter in a press conference later today.
