The third meeting of political parties held Thursday has agreed to approach Singapore’s first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew as chief mediator of the proposed President’s Political Dialogue Forum (PPDF).
The meeting also agreed to have an invitation extended to Sir Geoffrey Henry of the Cook Islands and Professor Yash Ghai of Kenya as advisers.
Sir Rabbie Namaliu, Papua New Guinea’s former PM had withdrawn his name after local political parties opposed his name saying Namaliu had no bearing on what was going on in Fiji.
The pre-PPDF meet agreed that all stakeholders, including political
parties, Government, non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations recognised the need to work towards a timeline, for the earliest possible restoration of parliamentary governance in Fiji.
The meeting noted that from the time at which a consensus was reached, the Electoral Commission had indicated it would take at least 12 to 15 months to convene the general elections.
