A new chairman has been named for Fiji’s troubled South Pacific Fertilizers Ltd (SPF).
Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) chief executive officer Sada Sivan was appointed to the position at a meeting of SPF shareholders today.
Sivan takes over from Sugar Cane Growers Council CEO Surendra Sharma who resigned from the SPF chairmanship last week following a strong exchange of opposing views with Fiji Sugar Corporation CEO Deo Saran over the future of SPF, in which the SCGC, the FSC and the SCGF are shareholders.
Apart from Sivan’s appointment, John May who is chairman of both the Sugar Commission of Fiji and the Growers Fund has been appointed consultant to SPF, FijiLive was informed.
May last week chaired talks between all three shareholders and the interim government over the future of SPFL, which owes some $15 million to SCGF, and because of which former chairman Sharma said the company was insolvent.
