Fiji’s interim Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the interim government will continue to support the Fiji Institute of Technology both morally and financially.
Speaking at today’s graduation of 823 students, Bainimarama said the FIT had played an important role in the education sector as it provided students with knowledge of various industries.
“This institute has been tasked with providing manpower resources for the working industry and so far they have a wonderful job,” he said.
The interim government had to bail out the national institute after it ran into the red last year, since then appointing a new director, Ganesh Chand, who this year embarked on a major development program for the institute.
Speaking at the graduation, Chand said the institute had come a long way from its financial problems and the future looked bright for FIT.
“This is a significant day for FIT and the graduates as we are sending 823 students into the working field who are fully qualified to increase the man power in Fiji’s economy,” Chand said.
He stressed the FIT had struggled and had come a long way since being founded in 1963.
“FIT graduates are trained to service various industries and we are proud to train students that graduate with excellent marks and are able to help the productivity of the nation as a whole,” he said.
Ashika Lata, a Diploma graduate in Business Accounting said her graduation had been the day she had been waiting for.
“I just hope that all the graduates find jobs soon,” Lata said.
