Jodhaa-Akbar, an Indian epic film that centres around the romance between the Muslim Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great and his Hindu wife has won the Best Film of 2008 at the 54th Filmfare Awards in Mumbai.

The film’s director, Ashutosh Gowariker, also won Best Director while Hrithik Roshan, who plays the role of Emperor Akbar, won Best Actor.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who plays the Hindu wife, was one of the five nominees for Best Actress In a Leading Role.

That award went to Priyanka Chopra for her role in Fashion.

Acclaimed music composer A. R. Rahman put together the soundtrack of the movie.

However, he won Best Music Director for his work in Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Na.

Rahman also recently won an Oscar for Slumdog Millionaire.
