Cops stop match to deport player

Police in Malta halted a second division football match to seize a Nigerian illegal immigrant.

Fans watched on in disbelief on Thursday as police walked onto the pitch and arrested Dominic Matthias, whose entry visa to Malta had expired.

Police officials later claimed they had informed Matthias's club that his visa had expired but they decided to field him anyway.

Matthias was taken away to the police headquarters pending his eventual repatriation back to his homeland.
